Community Spotlight: Garfield Elementary New Active Recess Program is Changing the Way their Students Play

For many students running and playing at recess is the best part of the day. However, sometimes certain kids may not feel engaged or may even feel left out. Through a special grant Garfield Elementary created a unique recess program that will engage all of their students. They call it active recess.

The five thousand dollar grant from Crow Wing Energized provided the school the opportunity to purchase new recess equipment. The recess supervisors use that equipment to engage the students.

The program  has made a significant difference in the classrooms  as well.

Lowell Elementary will also be starting the active recess program next fall.
