Community Spotlight: Fishing Stories Go Big During Kids Free Fishing Clinic

Ready, set cast. Kids in Brainerd this weekend got a free introduction to one of Minnesota’s favorite pastimes. They learned how to tie knots, bait and set hooks as well as how to prevent the spread of invasive species. And the clinic organizers say the event helped grow the fishing tradition.

Brainerd’s parks and recreation department put on the free event with the help of local sponsors. With the money they were able to give each kid fishing equipment to spread the fishing enthusiasm.

Also at Lum Park the kids got a chance to practice telling fishing stories and slightly exaggerate their fishing abilities.

The kids say they had fun fishing Lum Park and look forward to coming back next year.
