Community Spotlight: A Prom for a Cause

The town of Fosston provided a young girl with a special night during prom.

Lydia Wahlstrom is 11 years old and suffers from a condition called Batten disease. The disorder’s symptoms include blindness and seizures. The body’s motor functions slow down before causing death, usually by a person’s early 20s.

Lydia’s brother, 8-year-old Drew, has the same condition.

Grandfather Paul Magelssen wanted to do something special for his daughter, so he went to the Fosston school district and asked if he could dance with Lydia at prom. The school did everything it could to help.

The family received a ton of support from locals, including a free hair appointment and food, for the big night.
