Extra seat belt enforcement began on Minnesota roads this week.

Over 300 agencies are taking part in the 2016 Click It or Ticket campaign, which runs through June 5.

Minnesota Department of Public Safety data says 91 unbelted motorists were killed in 2015. in the last five years, there have been over 500 car deaths in the state due to passengers not wearing seat belts.

In addition, 77 percent of people who were ejected or partially ejected from a vehicle in Minnesota were not wearing a seat belt.

State law says all drivers and passengers in any seating position must be bucked up or placed in a proper child restraint. The DPS says officers will stop and ticket unbelted motorists.
