There will be a new Clearwater County Sheriff next year.

Darin Halverson, who has served in that role for the past 11 years, announced today he will not seek a fourth term this fall. Halverson has spent 34 years in law enforcement and was the Bagley police chief prior to becoming the Clearwater County Sheriff.

Halverson said in a social media post that the decision was not easy but was made after “careful personal reflection and thoughtful discussions” with his family. He says he was “fortunate to follow outstanding sheriffs and build upon a strong foundation” and is proud to have “implemented numerous upgrades and improvements that have enhanced efficiency, transparency, officer safety, communication, and the successful prosecution of criminal cases, while strengthening the overall safety and security” of area citizens.
