Over a score of high schools flocked to Central Lakes College for their annual Career Exploration Day. The students got to talk to people in Manufacturing, Business, Human Services, Health Sciences, Agriculture and art.
One of the industries the Brainerd Lakes Area is struggling to find new workers for is the manufacturing field. Companies like Pequot Tool say its becoming increasingly difficult to hire new young workers because it’s thought to be an old industry.
Students got to see first hand the machines used in manufacturing and also learned their don’t need a college degree to make up to $50,000 a year.
Event coordinators says its important for high school students to starting what career they’re interested in before they decide to go off to college.
