City of Brainerd to Close Stretch of Oak Street for Up to 4 Weeks

The City of Brainerd will be conducting road work on Oak Street beginning tomorrow, October 2.

The stretch of Oak Street between Walnut Street and Beech Street will be closed to replace the sewage and water main beneath the road. City officials say work could take two to four weeks depending on the weather.

“Could certainly take about two weeks, but I’m allowing for four weeks because of rain complications. We don’t really know,” said Mike Habighorst, Brainerd Public Works Director. “That is an older water line and sewer line underneath there. And when you dig in the ground, you just don’t know what you’re going to find. So I’m allowing for four weeks and, but it should only take two weeks. So we’re asking for the public to have a little patience for this, and it’s going to be a good project once we get done.”

Detours will be set up to have drivers go through downtown Brainerd via Highway 25, Washington Street, and 13th Street.
