City of Brainerd Looking To Update Comprehensive Plan

The Brainerd City Council is looking to update the city’s comprehensive plan.

Community Development Director James Kramvik touched on how the city updates its plan every five years during a city council meeting held earlier this month.

A comprehensive plan is a leading policy tool that provides a series of steps to help achieve a shared community vision. City staff proposed the primary objective of the update should be to increase the threshold at which an environmental assessment worksheet is required.

The plan hasn’t been updated since 2019, barring a council-approved amendment to the city map in 2022.

”One of the primary goals that the Planning Commission wants to see is really taking a look at our implementation strategy for our comprehensive plan,” Kramvik told Lakeland News “So, how are we implementing it? Are we meeting our objectives? And that’s lacking right now in our comprehensive plan.”

The updated comprehensive plan will be reviewed at the Planning Commission meeting in March.
