Central Lakes College Receives ‘Voter Friendly Campus’ Designation

Central Lakes College recently received the Voter Friendly Campus designation from the Fair Elections Center.

CLC is just one of four campuses in the state to receive the honor. The school was recognized for its various voter registration and information events on campus throughout the year, including registration drives at new student orientations and their “Donut Forget to Vote” event on Election Day.

“A lot of our students are more traditional age, you know, 18 years old to 22,” said Erich Heppner, CLC Director of Student Life. “It’s their first opportunity to vote when we get to them, for the most part. So we know that if we can turn them into a voter while they’re with us, they’ll probably be a lifelong voter.”

CLC was previously recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge as a Gold Campus for having over 70% of the student population vote in the 2020 election.
