Cass Lake Council Renames Park

The Cass Lake City Council voted unanimously Wednesday evening to rename a park in honor of a man who died in a 1948 factory fire.

Pat Ryan, who grew up in Cass Lake when his father who worked in the factory was killed in the fire asked the council to rename the park after him last month. The council delayed the decision in order to give the public an opportunity to comment.

The park will now be officially called Forrest E. Villiar Memorial Park. Ryan’s daughter designed a sign with Forrest Villier’s name and a dedication date that the family is hoping will be placed in the park.

Ryan currently lives in superior, Wis and said that his family would cover the cost of the sign.
