UPDATE: Cass County Alligator Reports

UPDATE: Cass County authorities say they’ve located an alligator.

The sheriff’s office got a call at 12:30 this afternoon of another sighting near Hardy Lake. This water body is about 15 miles west of Nisswa.

A conservation officer visited the area and located the gator, which authorities say was about 30 inches long. This capture is the second recent one in the area, as Crow Wing County police found an alligator on a bike trail south of Brainerd last week.

The Hardy Lake gator was also taken to the Safari North Wildlife Park near Brainerd.

Cass County law enforcement was tipped twice about alligator sightings in the last week.

On July 13, a woman called and told police she saw one near Sylvan Township a week earlier. Authorities checked the area and did not find the animal described.

The second call came on Monday morning. Police thoroughly checked the Hardy Lake area and, much like the first incident, did not find an alligator.

These calls follow the recent sighting and capture of an alligator in the Barrows area of Crow Wing County. Police brought the reptile to the Safari North Wildlife Park.
