A Bemidji State University senior will finish her degree with the help of a STEM-based scholarship. Alison Cordes has received a $2,500 scholarship from the Minnesota High Tech Association Foundation, which supports Minnesota undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering and math studies.

According to a press release, the CenturyLink Named Scholarship for STEM Education scholarship was one of the 19 awarded during the annual TEKNE Awards held on November 16, in Minneapolis.

“I was really surprised and excited when I found out I had received the scholarship,” said Cordes in a press release. “I was not expecting to actually win because they are so many great candidates around the state who apply for a scholarship from the Minnesota High Tech Association. I am very honored to represent Bemidji State University with this scholarship, as BSU has provided me with so many opportunities and support throughout my years here.”

Cordes is from Roseville, Minnesota, and will graduate in May with a degree in mathematics and mathematics education. She has tutored students at Bemidji High School and is a two-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Academic team honoree as part of the BSU women’s basketball program. She is a four-year member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a four-year member and treasurer of the BSU Student Athlete Advisory Committee, according to the press release.

The Department of Mathematics has also named Cordes as its Outstanding Student.

The Minnesota High Tech Association Foundation has award 135 STEM scholarships over the last 10 years, valued at more than $541,000.
