A 20-year old Bemidji State University student has died after being found unconscious this morning in a wooded area on the western edge of the city.

Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin said in a press release 20-year old Sandra Lommen showed signs of intoxication and hypothermia when she was found.

Lommen was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji where she was pronounced dead.
Mastin told Lakeland News a person walking their dog discovered Lommen around 8:30 this morning near 10th Street NW and Rice Avenue.
Lommen was a freshman nursing student from Bloomington, Minnesota and lived in a residential dorm on campus.

BSU President Ricard Hanson said in an e-mail to the BSU Community that staff at the Student Center for Health and Counseling are available to help anyone who may need assistance in coping with the loss.

The Bemidji Police Department is continuing to investigate Lommen’s death and is in the process of collecting more information.

Police Chief Mike Mastin tells Lakeland News a preliminary autopsy report could be released tomorrow.
