Brainerd School’s Makeup Snow Days

What no kid thinks about while sledding during their school’s snow days… makeup days. That job falls to the Brainerd School Board.

Brainerd Superintendent of Schools Steve Razidlo says, “The Brainerd Public School closed school five times and actually had one late start additionally. So six days thus far have been effected by weather. Even with those five days of closure and one day of late start we are still significantly over the minimum number of hours at every level of our system.”

The school board decided to: call the students back from Easter for Monday April 21st, add 1 extra day at the end of every level’s school year and add extra staff days for the remaining days

Razidlo says “It’s really a local desire to try and have our high quality staff wonderful teachers and staff promoting learning in front of our students for as many days as we can sensibly achieve.

The school board made their makeup days decision to benefit the student’s families and the community.

Brainerd parent, Mary Wohl, says, “I’m a single parent so I have to adjust when the school adjusts.”

Kids say they don’t like when makeup days affect their breaks.

Brainerd student Chelsea Holrin says, “I don’t want that because it takes up part of my summer and that kinda sucks,” while classmate Trudy Wohl says, “Probably in the beginning of the next school year so it doesn’t interfere with my school breaks.”

The Brainerd School Board has already made their 2014-15 calendar and is currently working on creating their 2015-16 schedule.
