Brainerd’s Riverside School Ready to Expand

Students learning under showers in old gym locker rooms, on stage in the cafeteria and in small converted storage closets. All of that will be a thing of the past at Riverside Elementary School. Last night the Brainerd School Board approved a $2 million dollar expansion project to expand the school’s learning spaces.
The school board agreed to three-headed team of the National Joint Powers Alliance, The Gordian Group and High-tech Construction that’ll add 12,000 square feet that’ll have 7 new classrooms along new restrooms and staff space. And they say working together should allow them to be ready for the start of class this fall.
Most of the parents picking up their children at Riverside School today say they’re for the expansion project, especially with Riverside School just receiving Nation Blue Ribbon honors.
The summer’s construction plans currently doesn’t have any rain days. But the construction team told the school board they’re looking to build some in. The school board also says they’re looking into addressing Lowell School’s space issues as well.
