Brainerd VFW Hosts A Special Program For Veterans

Veterans Day and Memorial Day are two holidays where veterans and military members are at the forefront of our minds. Today, an event was held in Brainerd to make sure we honor our veterans and military members all throughout the year.

People gathered at the Brainerd VFW this afternoon as both the Brainerd and Baxter mayors spoke about the importance of honoring our veterans. Then, a tree was lit at the end of the ceremony representing all the work that the veterans and their families have done for America.

“If you talk to the younger generation, they have no concept or idea what years the Vietnam War was versus WWII or the Korean War,” Dave Meyer, Senior Vice Commander at the VFW, said. “History is kind of forgotten – we need to know what different generations went through.”

The Brainerd VFW plans to make this an annual event to always celebrate our veterans in March and throughout the year.
