Brainerd Man Faces Two Felony Charges

After threatening his girlfriend’s mother with a stolen handgun on Tuesday, a Brainerd man is now facing two felony charges.

The Brainerd Dispatch reports that 21- year- old James Edward Johnson, is charged in Crow Wing County District Court with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and felony receiving stolen property. He is also charged with gross misdemeanor receive, ship or transport weapons/ammo as a felon and gross misdemeanor giving a peace officer a false name.

Early Tuesday morning officers were sent to a home on the 300 block of First Avenue Northeast regarding a domestic assault involving a firearm. Officers were advised the reporting party’s daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend were physically fighting and the boyfriend had a gun.

Officers located a loaded handgun in the basement that had been reported stolen in St. Louis County. The reporting party identified the handgun found in the basement as the handgun Johnson used to threaten her.

The Brainerd Dispatch says that Johnson is presently charged in a different case with felony domestic assault by strangulation, gross misdemeanor child endangerment and misdemeanor domestic assault. Those offenses are alleged to have occurred on or about September 4th at the same residence.
