Brainerd Girls’ Tennis Working To Improve on Middling Start to 2026

Brainerd girls’ tennis coming off of a 20-6 record and section semifinal appearance in 2025, but they’re still trying to find their footing early in 2026. After starting this season 3-3, the Warriors have dropped their last three matches.

They’ve seen some consistency behind No. 1 singles junior Taryn Mithun, who is 7-1 in her individual matches, but with only four returners to this season’s starting roster, head coach Garrett Goeden is trying out different lineups in an effort to create a spark while also helping the girls prepare for new strategies from opposing teams.

“We’re just trying to figure out what mixtures of people works best, what combinations, what doubles partners work best together, who doesn’t work well together,” said senior captain Abby Isaacson. “We need to brush off any losses we have, just [keep] moving forward, keep moving forward, always looking to the next day.”

“We’re working on the things that we’re super strong on,” added senior captain Piper Grillo. “You know, keep on building up our serving game, it’s really, really strong, and then just consistently working on attacking, working against other teams’ strategies, trying to figure out what’s coming next, what kind of ball’s coming across the net back at us.

The Warriors will try to get back on track on Thursday, Sep. 10 when they host Sartell.
