Brainerd Fire Department Responds To Several Brush Fires Over Easter Weekend

The snow is pretty much gone across Minnesota, but that means wildfire season is here, and the Brainerd Fire Department was busy over Easter Weekend.

The Brainerd Fire Department responded to seven brush fires between Friday and Saturday, but luckily most of them were small. According to Brainerd fire chief Tim Holmes, the largest fire burned 10 to 15 acres, and none of the fires damaged any structures.

“A few that we went to were threatening structures, but no structures were burnt,” Holmes said. “[It’s] not an unusual time to be having these fires with the weather the way it’s been – dryer, warmer, a little windy – and that has a big impact on the way the fires move.”

Burning permits are required throughout most of the state, and the fire chief also wants to remind everyone to always have water nearby if you are burning anything.
