Brainerd City Council Host Truth in Taxation Public Hearing

Thirty-five citizens packed the council chambers at Brainerd City hall waiting to hear why their property taxes had gone up so significantly.

Crow Wing County handles the assessing for all the properties in the county using a methodical system that is used to calculate the value of property.

The council is predicting that the estimated amount that some are expecting to pay may not be correct.

Residents should be expecting another notice to come in the mail.

The council plans to reassess the budget.

The council agrees that this is an extremely complicated system and the issue cannot be avoided.
