Brainerd Boys Golf Looking For First Trip To State

The Brainerd boys golf team was only two strokes away from making it to state for the first time in school history last year. The Warriors only lost one starter off that squad, and they are coming back hungrier than ever in 2019.

Led by four-time state qualifier Gavin Metz, the Warriors finished second at their conference meet earlier this week. Brainerd finished in second place by 13 strokes, and that was the same number of three putts they had on the day.

“Right now our biggest challenge is in our putting,” Brian Wallace, Brainerd Boys Golf Head Coach, said. “Yesterday at our meet, we had a lot of putts that would have made a difference in our overall score, and hopefully we work on that today and sure that up a little bit.”

“We had 13 three putts between four guys, so we are going to spend a lot of time putting,” Gavin Metz, Brainerd Senior Captain, said. “We did lose a valuable player, but we have young guys coming up that have shown some pretty good talent, and I believe in them.”

The Warriors will next hit the course on Saturday, April 27 at the Vintage Golf Course in Staples.
