Body Recovered On Red Lake Reservation Identified As Missing Person Dillon Sayers

A body that was recovered on the Red Lake Reservation on Thursday, April 25 has been identified as 26-year-old Dillon James Sayers.

According to the Red Lake Department of Public Safety, Sayers was reported missing on October 30, 2018 but was last seen on October 23, 2018 when family members dropped him off at his home on the Red Lake Reservation. Based on information received from the public during the course of the missing person investigation, two areas of interest were identified east of Red Lake.

A search of the two areas on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 was conducted by the FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force, the Red Lake Department of Public Safety, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and two cadaver dogs.

Remains were discovered during the search of one of the areas and the scene was scoured overnight, according to a release. On Thursday, April 25, the FBI Evidence Response Team exhumed the remains which were sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and positively identified as Sayers.

The case remains open and the cause of death remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Red Lake Department of Public Safety as (218) 679-3313.
