Body of Missing 64-Year-Old Man Found North of Aitkin

The body of a missing 64-year-old man has been located north of Aitkin.

Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida says after an extensive foot and air search, the Aitkin County Search and Rescue volunteers located Daniel Latterell’s body on Monday in a wet, dense brush area.

Guida says during 14 flight hours, unmanned drones collected over 11,000 images that were key in located Latterell, whose body was mostly hidden in 5-foot-tall willow brush. The body was sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for further determination of cause of death.

Latterell and his significant other, 62-year-old Jane Korpela, were reported missing on May 28th. They were last seen at a gas station near McGregor, and authorities said they were missing vulnerable adults and that there was concern for their mental health and safety.

On June 29th, the vehicle they were driving was located in a remote farming and wooded area north of Aitkin. Investigators found Korpela dead near the vehicle, but Latterell was not located at the time and authorities said they did not suspect foul play.

Latterell’s body was about 1,000 feet from the vehicle when it was found on Monday.
