Bemidji’s Watermark Art Center to Debut Annual Middle School Art Exhibit

The Watermark Art Center in Bemidji will soon be displaying its annual middle school exhibit to show off artwork from local young artists.

Pieces from four middle schools—Bemidji, Laporte, Aurora Waasakone, and Cass Lake-Bena—will be represented. The exhibit is home to over 350 pieces of art from students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.

There are a variety of mediums used, with everything from sculptures to 2D drawings to wood burning on display. This exhibit has been around for several years and is meant to encourage young artists to pursue their passions.

“Watermark’s a huge advocate of art in the schools, so we like to showcase what the kids are doing to and just promote youth art in any way we can,” said Jill Neumann, Watermark’s Art Education Program Director. “And we hope that the kids enjoy seeing their work in an actual gallery setting. I’m just glad to see that we still have kids that have a passion for it.”

The opening reception at the gallery will be held Friday, May 2nd from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. The exhibit is open to the public and will be on display through May 23rd.
