Bemidji Taking Steps To Become Seizure Friendly

Bemidji is taking steps to become a seizure-friendly community.

Epilepsy Foundation-Minnesota visited multiple Bemidji area schools and businesses this week to provide seizure response training to students, teachers and caretakers. Some of the places the trainings were held include Bemidji State University, Bemidji High School, Schoolcraft Learning Community and the Bemidji Transportation Center. Epilepsy Foundation-Minnesota says it’s their mission to spread as much awareness as possible.

Lisa Peterson, the northern Minnesota regional coordinator for Epilepsy Foundation-Minnesota, says, “It is so important for people in the community to know about epilepsy because it impacts a lot of people. One out of 26 people will have epilepsy at some point in their lifetime and so it’s really, really imperative that we know how to respond appropriately because that person who is having the seizure, they’re really relying on people around them to give them the best response because it can save their life and provide safety for that individual.”

Epilepsy Foundation-Minnesota will be in Grand Rapids next Tuesday. They’ll be hosting an event at the Thunder Alley XL bowling alley for people affected by epilepsy, which starts at 5:30.
