Bemidji Student Earns Scholarship for Essay On Biodiesel

Cameron Boen of Bemidji is the second-place recipient of the 2016 Clean Air Choice Biodiesel Essay Scholarship. The scholarship which is open to all high school seniors in Minnesota, is sponsored by the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council and administered by the American Lung Association in Minnesota.  His winning essay was selected from nearly 100 applications statewide. A recent graduate of Bemidji High School, Boen was a 2^nd baseman for the Lumberjacks baseball team.

In his essay, Boen wrote “As a young man soon moving on to further my education in college I want to learn about and encourage the use of materials that will reduce the negative impacts on our environment,” he went on to say “I want to support the use of things like biodiesel that will prolong the beautiful environment we have.”

Boen will receive a $500 scholarship for his essay, which was suggested to him by his guidance counselor.  He will use his scholarship at the College of St. Scholastica, where he plans to study biology with an eye toward becoming a physician’s assistant.

Carson Thomas Bryan of Red Wing was the first-place recipient.  He plans to attend classes at the University of Minnesota.
