Bemidji State Grad Wins Students United Outstanding Alumni Award for 2016

According to a press release from Bemidji State University, BSU alumnus Brent Glass will receive Students United’s 2016 Andrea Ruesch Outstanding Alumni Award during the organization’s November Delegates Luncheon on Nov. 12 in Minneapolis.

Glass is being recognized for his achievements as a former Students United executive director who is credited with establishing the group’s initial student leadership scholarship. He later pursued professional student services roles at both the college and university levels, where he worked with student populations to increase student success and to encourage involvement in the campus and state student communities.

Glass is currently the system director and operations manager in the Academic and Student Affairs Division at the Minnesota State system office in St. Paul. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Bemidji State University and his master’s degree at St. Cloud State University. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education administration at St. Cloud State.

“He became involved because of issues he cared about, and stayed involved because he cared about his fellow students and the importance of higher education,” the organization said.

The Students United Outstanding Alumni Award was established in 2012 to honor the memory of Minnesota State University, Moorhead, graduate Andrea Ruesch, who passed away in 2009. Ruesch was the Students United state chair in 1994-95 and was the organization’s director of development from 1999-2002. The organization created the award to remember Ruesch’s talent, enthusiasm and professionalism and her lasting contribution to Students United.
