Bemidji Residents Spend a Day at the Capitol

Dozens of local Bemidji residents hopped on a bus this morning with the goal of lobbying state legislators and sharing ideas and information that affects Bemidji residents. This year’s Bemidji Day at the Capitol 2016 marks the 11th year that Bemidji citizens have taken time out to visit lawmakers in St. Paul.

Some of the more important issues attendee were paying attention to included the continued expansion of the Paul Bunyan Expressway, several bonding measures, including the replacement of Hagg Sauer Hall on the BSU campus, expansion of regional dental services through the Northern Dental Access Center, funding for the county/state share of a Northern Minnesota Veterans home, and restoration and rehabilitation of the historic Carnegie Library.

In between talks with legislators attendees had the opportunity to listen to presentations from Sen. Saxhaug, Rep. Percell, Rep. Hancock, Lt. Gov. Smith and Sen. Bakk.
