Bemidji Police Standoff Update

A distressed man in the Bemidji community has been taken into custody after a standoff with police.

The armed man has been identified as 56-year-old Douglas Westrum.

He had been arguing with family over a gun. Police responded to a 911 report of gunshots; it took six hours of negotiating and a SWAT team to remove Westrum from the residence.

Family members were moved to a safe place earlier in the standoff. No injuries were reported by police.
