Bemidji Police Searching For Suspect In Assault Investigation

The Bemidji Police Department is looking for a suspect in an ongoing assault investigation. They’re telling people in the Bemidji’s Nymore neighborhood there’s no danger in the area, but to be vigilant of your surroundings and report any suspicious behavior.

According to police, in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 11th, Bemidji Police Officers investigated an assault in the 1500 block of Roosevelt Road SE. Officers spoke with a female victim who said she was pulled to the ground by an unknown male. As a struggle ensued, the victim was able to free herself and ran from the area. Officers immediately searched the area and were unable to locate anyone fitting the description provided by the victim.

“It was an assault, and that’s how we’re investigating it right now. We haven’t had anything like this in the recent past, and nothing targeting that area that we found at this time. It’s still under investigation right now, so to release many more details would possibly jeopardize that investigation,” David LaZella, Bemidji Police Department Captain, said.

The victim described the suspect as a male with dark hair, approximately 5’9” and was wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans. Anyone with additional information should contact Detective Michelle Leffelman at (218) 333-9111.
