Bemidji Holds Vigil for Orlando Victims

Less than 24 hours after a mass shooting in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, people from all over the world have gathered in solidarity to honor the lives lost, including the Bemidji community.

At around 10 p.m. Sunday, a group of Bemidjians held a candlelight vigil by Paul and Babe the Ox, with a handwritten sign that says “We are Orlando” and a rainbow flag raised for about two hours.

The event was organized via Facebook. Throughout the night, motorists honked and waved to show support to the movement.

The rain did not stop them either, it was a moment to share love and not fear, and to support the LGBTQ community locally and globally.

The state of Minnesota is also showing support by lighting up the I-35 West bridge in Minneapolis with rainbow colors. It will remain lit through Thursday.
