Bemidji Firefighters Rescue Person Trapped on Roof of House on Fire

BEMIDJI, MINN. — The Bemidji Fire Department responded to a report around 5:25 p.m. Thursday regarding a house fire located in the 800 block of Irvine Avenue, Bemidji.

According to the Bemidji Fire Department, upon arrival firefighters observed moderate smoke coming from the second story of the house and a person trapped on the rooftop. Firefighters immediately brought the person to safety using a ladder and then worked to contain and extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire, which caused an estimated $78,000 in damages, is unknown at this time and is under investigation. Approximately 15 firefighters and two fire engines were at the scene for about five hours.

Other agencies also responding to the scene included the Bemidji Police Department, Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Bemidji Ambulance, Ottertail Power Co. and Minnesota Energy Resources.
