Bemidji Celebrates Memorial Day With Special Service

Bemidji residents turned up in red, white, and blue today to celebrate a very special Memorial Day. The American Legion hosted a service to commemorate all of the men and women who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

At the service, flags were placed at grave sites throughout Greenwood Cemetery to commemorate veterans who have lost their lives in the Bemidji community. American Legion Commander Bob Aitken said, “This is our freedom. This is why we’re free today, because of those veterans that gave their lives and were willing to sacrifice their lives.” Service men and women were also honored with a color guard and a gun salute.

Spectators at the event believe that today’s service served as a reminder to honor not only veterans who have lost their lives, but to also remember all service men and women every day.
