Bemidji Blue Ox Left Without Home After Storm Damage to BSU Baseball Field

The effects of the storm damage at Bemidji State University has provided a curveball for other sports teams in town. The Bemidji Blue Ox’s home field at BSU was damaged from the June 21st storm, leaving the team without a dugout of their own.

They’ve been actively working to coordinate the rest of their season, with options to potentially use other fields in the Bemidji area for home games. The squad also has helping hands elsewhere, using social media platforms such as X to communicate with fans and other amateur baseball teams about location changes as well as rescheduling cancellations.

“Amateur baseball is very close-knit,” said Bazil Zuehlke, the Bemidji Blue Ox manager. “You have a lot of managers that are reaching out, saying, ‘How can we help? What can we do?’ So, we’re appreciative of that. Our neighboring towns have been more than accommodating many times.”

The Blue Ox are also trying to find a way to host their annual Sanford Family Night.

“On the forefront right now is figuring out a time and a place that will work for everybody,” Zuehlke said. “Whether it has a little bit different spin on it this year than it had in the past, maybe we’ll see that. But more than likely, you are going to see something that comes from Sanford and us. We’re excited for that; it might just have to be impromptu.”

You can keep up with any changes to the Blue Ox schedule on X @BlueOxBaseball. You can also reach out about helping host home games there.
