Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office Waiting For Better Weather To Remove Ice Fence

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office has been slowly removing the ice fence that is still surrounding a portion of Lake Bemidji near the southwest Mississippi River Inlet. They also say what’s remaining on the river has all been buoyed and that anything that goes in the water will float and will be easy to remove.

The Beltrami County Sheriff Office has removed about 80 percent of the fencing and are waiting for better weather to pull the rest out because some of the fencing is still frozen.

Beltrami County Sheriff Ernie Beitel said the fence is being checked daily.

“It’s being watched on a daily basis by our boat and water recreational deputies, so they are checking on it daily and pulling on what they can. It’s easy access from Lake Irving up to the river and get out there and start pulling chunks of it in,” said Sheriff Beitel.
