Beltrami County Board of Commissioners Discusses Veterans Home Initiative

The Beltrami County Board held a meeting at the Beltrami Administration Building Tuesday, March 19 to discuss the status of the local funds of the Veterans Home Initiative. The Beltrami County Board Chair said the total amount they have for the Veteran Home is $42.5 million.

“The initiative now is going into the federal government and it goes into the federal queue,” Board Chair Jim Lucachick said. “We’ll find out if it makes it through that and shortly after that the process  – we’ll start to build that home and start to work towards getting veterans in a bed.”

Lucachick said once the process starts, the veterans home will be built in Bemidji on grounds that was donated by Sanford Health. The veterans homes will be located between the hospital and Vista North Housing.

“It’s a very good piece of property close to the other long term care facilities and has access off of Anne Street,” Lucachick said. “Sanford was very generous to donate a piece of property that was worth close to a million dollars, and it’s a very good thing for our veterans.”
