Beheading Suspects Make Court Appearance

Two people who were allegedly involved in the beheading of a man near Ball Club appeared in Itasca County Court on Tuesday. Joseph Thoresen, 35, is charged with 2nd degree murder for allegedly beheading 20-year old David Alexander Haiman of Hibbing.

A 22-year old woman who has accused Haiman of sexually assaulting her is charged with accomplice after the fact to second-degree murder and third degree assault. Lakeland News generally does not name people who say they’re victims of sexual abuse.

Thoresen and the woman are accused of attacking Haiman at their apartment on June 21.   The criminal complaint in the cases alleges Thoresen later assaulted Haiman again using a baseball bat, knife and a machete.

Judge Korey Wahwassuck upheld previous bail conditions on Tuesday. Thoresen’s bail is set at $2 million without conditions, or $1 million with conditions. The woman continues to be held on $200,000 without conditions or $100,000 with conditions.

Thoresen’s next court appearance has been scheduled for August 29. The woman’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 18.
