Backus Man Arrested During Cass County Drug Stop

A 56-year-old man has been arrested after law enforcement in Cass County attempted to stop a vehicle on Saturday they suspected in an ongoing investigation involving the use, sales, and trafficking of narcotics into Cass County.

Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk says a pursuit ensued, with the target vehicle traveling approximately 10 miles before stopping. The driver, identified as Christopher Ford of Backus, was detained.

Cass County K-9 Ryker was deployed on the vehicle and indicated a positive K-9 alert to the presence of controlled substances. When no substances were located in the vehicle, deputies and investigators searched the roadway and ditches along the area where the pursuit occurred and found a plastic grocery bag containing a ziplock bag with approximately 180 grams of suspected methamphetamine in the ditch.

Ford was arrested and transported to the Cass County Detention Center. Formal charges are pending.
