Authorities Rescue Woman From Mississippi River In Brainerd

A woman in Brainerd had to be rescued from the Mississippi River early Saturday morning after she jumped from the Laurel Street Bridge.

Authorities reported that someone passing by the bridge noticed clothes on the bridge and heard a woman screaming, prompting a 911 call that was made around 1:30 a.m. on April 13th. When authorities arrived, the woman in the river was hanging on to a branch to avoid being swept downstream. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Brainerd Police and Fire Departments in bringing the woman back to safety.

“This incident was easy, it was right by the station, so we went right out the doors and down the hill,” Tim Holmes, Brainerd’s Fire Chief, said. “Things went really well, I think from the time we got on scene to the time of the rescue was within 15 minutes, and I don’t think we were on scene any longer than 30 minutes, so it went really quick.”

The name of the woman is being withheld at this time, and it is still unknown as to why she decided to jump off the bridge.
