Americorps NCCC Hosts Community Day at Bemidji Food Shelf

Even though it was a rainy day, that didn’t stop the Americorps National Civilian Community Corps from lending a helping hand. People of all ages showed up to the Bemidji Community Food Shelf to help the service group kick off the food shelf’s new garden project.

The food shelf started thinking about the garden project when they moved to a new facility that had half an acre of undeveloped land. Food shelf employees say the goal of the garden project is to provide fresh produce and improve the nutritional value of the foods they give.

The NCCC team got their hands dirty during the week working outside in the garden, but the rain kept today’s volunteers helping out inside. The NCC hopes that their work today will help the Bemidji community for years to come.
