Alexandria Man Dies During Boating Incident

The body of an Alexandria man was recovered after a boating incident on Lake LeHomme Dieu. Brandon Darryl Randt, 29 years old, died on August 27th, when he appeared to be returning to shore while testing a new boat.

According to a press release from the Douglas County Sherriff’s office, a 911 call was received at 9:14 A-M Saturday, for a man overboard. Witnesses say Randt was testing the boat. The witness lost sight of the boat due to the sun, and when the witness saw the boat again, Randt was in the water with the boat circling.

Alexandria Police and Fire, Brandon Fire, Carlos Fire, Garfield Fire, MN State Patrol, North Ambulance, North Air Care and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Rescuers found his body in 24 feet of water around 1:35 PM. Randt was not wearing a life jacket.

The cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy.
