56 Year Old Fishing Opener Tradition Continues On Gull Lake

Free coffee and donuts, it’s what goes best with early morning fishing on Gull Lake during the Fishing Opener. The Welcome Wannigan is one of the longest running Fishing Opener traditions on Gull Lake. And the pontoon captain for the last six years says veteran fishermen on Gull Lake love the tradition and he loves seeing first-timers reactions to it.

Each year there’s a friendly competition of who can supply coffee. This year Adirondack Coffee donated 10 galloons. And the owner says being apart of the tradition this year brings back good memories.

Schaffer’s bakery donated the donuts this year for the Welcome Wannigan which spent about 5 hours on Gull Lake.
