500 Million Yahoo Accounts Hacked

At least 500 million accounts have been hacked.

An investigation lead by Yahoo, found that a “state-sponsored actor” hacked the YAHOO system in late 2014, but just recently came to light.

The hacker took names, email addresses, telephone number, dates of birth, hashed passwords, and according to Bob Lord, Yahoo chief information security officer, some encrypted and unencrypted security questions and answers.

Yahoo has sent out emailed information to those who have been affected.

At this time Yahoo does not believe that any unprotected passwords, debit/credit cards, or bank account information were taken, as this information is located in a separate system.

Yahoo has suggested that account holders change their passwords, security questions, and answers to help maintain security.

The investigation remains open. There has been no evidence found that the state-sponsored actor is still in the system according to Yahoo investigators.
