5-Year-Old Reunites with Family, Suspect Awaits Formal Charges

After a long night search, a young girl is finally home with her family again. And one man has been arrested for kidnapping.

5-year-old Brittany Balcer was found at around 5 a.m. Thursday at a pop-up camper near Big Fork, after the suspect voluntarily spoke with detectives the night before.

Balcer went missing after visiting a Bemidji home that caught fire and killed one person. Family friends say the victim was Balcer’s mother’s best friend, and Balcer frequently visited.

Jacob William Kinn, 32, has been arrested for kidnapping. Kinn was convicted of possessing child pornography in 2013. Investigators believe the suspect has connection to the victim.

Investigators believe this could be a homicide. Officials are waiting on official autopsy results from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner before moving forward.

Kinn is currently held in Beltrami County Jail and awaits formal charges. We will update the story as more information becomes available.
