For 25 years the Sertoma Club in Brainerd has been encouraging students to hit the weights, as well as give back to the community. This year’s event saw nearly 115 competitors, and ranged from first timers to seasoned veterans, such as senior Matthew Thompson, a four-time competitor.

While the majority of contestants in the lift-a-thon were male, there were still a few out to prove that lifting isn’t just for the boys. And contestants say weight lifting is something everyone should try.
