20 for 20: 371 Bypass Opening (2000)

To celebrate our 20th anniversary of Lakeland News, we’re taking a look back at some of the memorable local stories we’ve covered over the years. It’s called 20 For 20 – twenty stories in all, one for each of the twenty years we have been on the air with Lakeland News.

This time, we look back at the year 2000. After we made it through the Y2K scare just fine, travelers in the area had something else to celebrate: the opening of the Highway 371 bypass in the Brainerd/Baxter area. The opening of 371 certainly marked the beginning of improved travel through the Brainerd Lakes area.

The reporter for this story, Ryan Gamradt, is now crew chief of operations at King-TV in Seattle, WA.
