19-Year-Old Dies In Car Crash Near Park Rapids

A 19-year-old man died in a car crash north of Park Rapids early Saturday, the Park Rapids Enterprise reports.

The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 6:25 a.m. Saturday of an one-vehicle accident on 190th Street, one mile northwest of Park Rapids. Officers arrived to find a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe upside down and on its roof.

Avery Jon Mikel, 19, of Nevis, was pinned under the vehicle and died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to his obituary, Private First Class Avery Mikel graduated from Nevis High School in 2015 and went into the military, serving in the MN National Guard until his passing. He also started “Avery’s Walk for Wildlife,” an organization that raised funds for animals injured in oil spills.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Funeral details: A service for Avery will be held at the Firefly Event Barn in Nevis, MN on Friday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation with family will be one hour prior, and a celebration of life will continue after the service into the evening.
