11th Red Lake Youth Conference Empowers Native Youth for the Future

Moccasin making, jewelry designing – these are just some of the skills Native American elders are teaching the youth, at the 11th Annual Red Lake Youth Conference.

This year’s theme is ‘Shaping the Future.’ Keynote speakers addressed topics such as suicide prevention and the importance of building healthy relationships. The Red Lake Nation Youth Council is encouraging their peers to connect and get involved with the community.

The conference first started 10 years ago after a tragic shooting incident happened in the area. Organizers are looking ahead to the future by continuously empowering the youth.

The three day conference will go through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The event is open to the public at Red Lake High School.
