Winter Weather Can Affect Water Lines And Pipes

The frigid conditions can freeze your water lines and pipes. This can cause significant damage to homes and businesses.

If you notice any water damage the first step is to turn off the water supply if it’s safe to do so. Depending on how long water was leaking from the pipe, damage can include soaked carpets, hardwood floors wet drywall, insulation and ceilings.

Paul Davis of Golden Valley, a provider of fire and water damage clean up and restoration offered some suggestions.

  • The plumbing on a building should be inspected regularly.
  • Make sure pipes and water lines are insulated properly.
  • Open faucets with a trickle of water to prevent pipe freezing during cold weather.
