Brainerd Lakes Area men “walked a mile in her shoes to raise awareness for sexual assault and gender violence.
Unfortunately, sexual assault continues to plague society, and often goes unreported.
The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN) says 60% of sexual assaults are not reported to police. Law enforcement urges victims to call for help.
Several members of the Brainerd High School football team walk the mile, as well as local royalty, and other area leaders.
The walkers compete fiercely for the hairiest legs, loveliest legs, best shoes, and best walk award.
The event also calls attention to child abuse. RAINN says 44% of sexual assault victims are under age 18.
The event proceeds went to Sexual Assault Services and the Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center.
